In this week’s Gospel, Jesus says, ‘the poor will always be with you.’
This doesn’t sound like good news!
But I think what he’s really saying – he’s speaking to his disciples about a woman using costly perfume to anoint him – is that it’s ok to be extravagant in our worship.
Because it’s Jesus who saves us. We can’t save ourselves or the world on our own.
We DO try to help and serve one another – especially the poor – but we do it out of the knowledge that we are saved, and that we know Jesus continues to save us.
